I held the position of psychiatric social worker, employed in a cooperative day treatment program for children with severe emotional difficulties.  The agency’s purpose is to provide these children with a special school program within their own community.  I served as a therapist for the children and their families. 

1970 to 1972:

I held the position of psychiatric social worker and counseled children, adolescents, marital couples, parents, and older adults. 

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS:

1978 to Present:

I co-lead a therapeutic support group for former cult members with William Goldberg, LCSW.

1979 to Present:

I have appeared on television programs such as “NBC News,” “Shirley,” “New Jersey Tonight,” “Talk of the Town,” “Straight Talk,” “CNN News,” and “New Jersey Nightly News” to discuss own group for former cultists and the aftereffects of cult involvement.  I also have appeared on a national program in Brazil to discuss the same topic.  I have appeared on radio, including WCBS and WBAI, to discuss cult-related issues.  Magazines and newspapers, including The Record (NJ), The Star Ledger (NJ), and Psychotherapy Finances have written about our group for former cultists and have consulted with me about cult-related issues.  I also have appeared in two films on cults, produced by the American Family Foundation.

June 22, 2006:

I presented two papers, “Psychopathology in Members of Cultic Groups:  Identification with Aggressor or Pre-Existing Personality Characteristics?” and “The Power of Telling Your Story” at the International Cultic Studies Association Conference in Denver, Colorado.

April 23, 2006:

I presented two papers, “The Harsh Conscience of Second Generation Former Cultists” and “Forgiveness of Self and Others” at the Internation Cultic Studies Association’s Workshop for Second Generation Former Cult Members at Cornwall, Connecticut.

July 14, 2005:

I presented three papers, “Problems Ex-Members and Families Face” (presented with William Goldberg), “Raised in Cultic Groups: Impact of Certain Aspects of Character Development,” and “Psychotherapy with a Child who was Born and Raised in a Cult” at the Conference on Psychological Manipulation, Cultic Groups, and Other Alternative Movements, sponsored by the Psychology Faculty, The University Autonoma de Madrid and the International Cultic Studies Association in Madrid, Spain.

June 11, 2004:

I presented a paper, “Cult Influence on Character Development,” at the American Family Foundation’s Conference in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

May 23, 2004:

I presented a paper, “Thirteen: The Developmental Struggles of A Young Adolescent,” at the Third Annual Conference of the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Program at the New Jersey Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis in Teaneck, NJ.
